FUELCONTROL System Delivery to Stora Enso in Heinola

Inray will deliver an automatic FUELCONTROL® measurement system to the power plant at Stora Enso’s Heinola fluting mill for fuel quality control. The system provides real-time data on the moisture and foreign material content of wood-based fuels, enabling load-specific determination of energy content and its use in fuel pricing without the need for sampling. Thanks to the measurement system, the reliability of fuel quality control improves and the amount of work decreases. The delivery also includes the INRAY® Camera machine vision system, which, among other things, identifies fuel types and the proportion of green chips in real time. The systems will be commissioned during 2025.

The measurement system is part of Stora Enso Heinola’s investment package for upgrading the mill’s energy use and related processes. After the investment, it will be possible to replace the remaining fossil fuel used at the mill with renewable bioenergy, reducing the mill’s greenhouse gas emissions by more than 90%.

Stora Enso’s Heinola mill produces high-quality fluting, the middle layer of corrugated cardboard, mainly for export. Most of the wood needed by the mill is sourced from local private forest owners. The fluting mill produces 95% of the district heating required by the residents of the city of Heinola.
